CONNECTIONMy name is John and I would like to welcome you to Walk Talk Therapy. Please feel free to look at the following pages to see what I have to offer.
In these challenging times connecting with others can be harder than ever before. Many people are feeling anxious about the world around them, missing healthy connection with others and are aware that something is missing from their life. Connection with others is known to have many positive benefits such as reducing anxiety and depression, connecting with our emotions, building self esteem and empathy. All of these are known to benefit the development of a healthy immune system. Connecting with a therapist is one way to develop one’s sense of self and place in the world and could certainly help those in need at this time. It can also be a great way to work through issues that are getting in the way of living a content and happy life. |
WHAT IS WALK TALK THERAPY?Walk and Talk Therapy is the same as traditional therapy, the main difference being that we meet outside in nature. Sessions can happen in ways that works for you and are not meant to be a fitness program. You can choose to walk at a pace that suits you and can take sit down breaks if this feels appropriate.
I aim to work at the pace that suits each individual both therapeutically and physically and encourage conversation about how we approach this piece of our work together. |
Why Walk Talk Therapy?Walk and Talk Therapy is very similar to a session in an office. When working in an office some people find sitting in front of a therapist really intense and walking together side by side can remove some of this pressure. Scientific research also shows that physical exercise creates more positive feelings within us.
During this therapeutic approach we are able to use these positive feelings to help us explore our inner process in a way that might not happen in a room. Clients are often able to access a better sense of themselves when working together in a less confined environment. During these times of COVID 19 there is an added layer of safety for many and a comfort level that being outside brings. I am happy to answer any questions you may have during our initial conversation. |
Where can we work together? There are a number of location that can work well, both for your therapeutic needs and for your ease of access. Once we have agreed on a location and provided it works for us I would encourage this being our regular counselling location.
During this particularly challenging time I am able to offer both outdoor counselling and secure online counselling through the Zoom platform. Together we can make a decision about how to meet that works best for you. Warmly, John Murray |
